Ronda

Image
Travelling by car though Andalusia , we visited its main iconic cities. And of course, Ronda is one of them. It was worth visiting at least for the breathtaking views.   Rhonda is a part of Malaga province in the Andalusia region, and its history dates back to centuries BC thanks to the Celtic tribes. the City is located in an unusual landscape – near the gorge, and as it was built into the rocks. The main attraction of the city is the New Bridge, its construction took almost 40 years and was completed in 1793 (as its name implies, something went wrong with the old bridge). It connects the edges of the gorge, as well as the “market” and “old” quarters of the city, and on closer examination gives an understanding of advanced construction technologies of the 18th century, taking into account the specific features of the area.   Another important attraction is the medieval Arab fortress (Medina), which used the landscape advantages for its direct (military) purpose. Hong Kong

The tradition to travel to Southeast Asia through a local metropolis has developed long ago, and if I’m not mistaken, it started with Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. This time we decided to see Hong Kong on the way to Koh Samui in Thailand . On the one hand, we could buy cheap tickets by making a stop on the way, and then take a low-cost airline from the transportation hub city to the island. On the other hand, by increasing this transit to 2-3 days, you can also see the city properly, and even do it twice (on the way there and back). That’s what we did with Hong Kong.   Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China, as well as the largest financial center in the region, where there are international banks, the headquarters of many global and regional corporations, and the bustle of business life. The history of the region was difficult, just think about lease of Hong Kong by great Britain for 99 years. English heritage is everywhere, which is a huge plus for tourists as in Chin

Barbados

Even in my childhood, I was an enthusiastic fan of movies, and it always seemed to be something beyond the excitement if one of the characters mentioned a “trip to Barbados.” Because my childhood took place in a country behind the iron curtain, I even could not imagine that someday I would be able to be in the place where the happy movie characters left during the happy ending. And finally, there was a significant event – on my birthday I received a wonderful gift, the best, of all that I ever had. A trip to Barbados. As usual, our trips “to the other end of the world” normally include a transit in a large city on the way to thedestination. Most often, these were trips to Southeast Asia and transits in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and other local big cities. When traveling to Barbados we decided to see London by making a stop there. As it was winter, the weather was so-so, cold, windy and rainy. But we were not upset with that, because to be in London for the day was a kind of little adv

Samui

Heading to Thailand, we decided to visit Koh Samui, where there are no direct flights from Moscow. By tradition, we had a transit in Hong Kong, and then, flew to Koh Samui with a low-cost airline. This island is worth all the complex travel planning. At this time, the resort we liked Tongsai Bay Hotel had a special offer for accommodation, and we were lucky to spend the entire holiday there. Oddly enough, the more comfortable you feel, the less you want to take pictures, so we no special photos left from this trip. Koh Samui is located in The Gulf of Thailand of the Pacific Ocean, and is the second largest island in Thailand, after Phuket. By the way, during our in past trip to Thailand I learned an interesting fact about about the Gulf of Thailand from a trour guide – in the 70-s of the last century there was a large-scale oil disaster, that had a strong impact on marine fauna. And that is why there are very few sharks in these warm waters (apparently, “few” by local standards). “S

Rothenburg ob der Tauber

It’s hard to imagine that this Bavarian city is over a thousand years old, and its history includes most of fairy and medieval clichés. Founded by a medieval nobleman in 970, it passed under the government of another dynasty after the testament unapproved by the emperor, then became an independent city, was the venue of the Union of “fürst” (princes), an union of Christian cities. The city lost its independence during the Napoleonic wars in 1802, passing under the government of Bavaria. It was severely subjected to destructions during the Second World War, but was rebuilt.   We didn’t have a special purpose to visit this city – it’s just that the Munich surroundings had already been examinated for a long time, and for new impressions we headed for a small “fairy town” with a complex name. In local guidebooks, it was presented as an ideal place for pre-Christmas walks – the preserved architecture with local flavor, themed city decoration, and the museum of Christmas tree decorations p
