Bruges
Bruges is an old town located in the South western part of Belgium. In the past years it has become famous as the place where Napoleon lived while he was being Corsican for two years. This historic town is situated at the river Marne, where many battles were fought between French and Italian armies during the French invasion of Italy in 1570. Besides this, it is also a famous place where you can go for a night out on the town that has numerous romantic bars, interesting museums, fine restaurants and beautiful architecture. The best time to visit this charming town is between September and May or from January to March. You will love all the different attractions that Bruges has to offer, so when you come here take time to visit them all. A boat trip along the Bruges canals is a great way to get a powerful charge of impressions (I order a boat tour at foxiepass).
The first attraction that you should see when you come to Bruges is the Old Town, which is the oldest part of the city center. At night, you won't only appreciate the spectacular light, but also you get to walk along in total peace and quiet. There are many interesting things to do at the old town such as walking along the canals and learning about the ancient architecture of the city. During daytime, you can visit Bruges' most famous attractions such as its museums, the Cathedrals and the Royal Castle. It is even better not to visit bruges late because it gets very busy during the evening, so you won't miss all the beautiful light show that the city center has to offer.
If you like to take things with you while you travel around, one of the best attractions of Bruges is the Old St. John Cathedral. Built in 1801, the cathedral is considered as one of the best tourist places in Europe. Furthermore, this cathedral is also a place where you can find relics from the former era of Belgian politics. If you want to make a trip to Bruges complete, it is suggested that you take a guided tour around the city. During your guided tour, you will see the different architectural wonders of the Old Town and will also meet the locals. The locals are very friendly and welcoming and would love to give you some tips on the best things to do or see in Bruges.
In addition to guided tours, there are a lot of things to do in Bruges and to include visiting the famous cathedrals, or rather the most famous of them all, the old st. John the Baptist. Built in 1690, the church is known for its paintings of the Madonna and Jesus. Other than the cathedrals, one of the most visited spots in Bruges is the Market Square, which happens to be the biggest public square in the continent. Here you can go to walk around the square and enjoy the wide range of shops and other attractions such as the Delivering Club, which offers its patrons free beer delivered to their door every day.
If you want to have a boat excursion in Bruges, you can join the various tour boats that depart from the minnewater park across the canals. Boat excursions are usually arranged before or on weekdays during the summer, and you can expect to travel along the beautiful canals of Bruges. The boats depart from the Minnewater park and travel along the beautiful coastline of Bruges. At the end of your boat excursion, you can stay overnight in one of the various hotels that are located in and around the city center. Checking in at one of the boutique hotels and making dreamy romantic walks around the city (to compare prices for hotels, I use the service hotelhunter).
You can also join a number of tour boats that leave from the Mnnewater park and travel along the beautiful canals of Bruges. If you want to go on a more leisurely boat excursion, you can choose to travel along the canals that connect the cities of Bruges and Antwerp. Traveling along the famous 'water express' is an experience that you would definitely cherish for the rest of your life. The water express leaves from the Minnewater park and travels along the main canal of Bruges. After visiting the various sights, enjoy a boat excursion to one of the many tourist destinations in Bruges.
