Copenhagen - first acquaintance

Copenhagen, often referred to as "Venice of the North," is an idyllic city known for its charming bridges and elegant palaces. As Scandinavia's third-largest city, Copenhagen was also Hans Christian Andersen's birthplace - author of numerous classic fairy tales!

Jens Juul, of Denmark, uses his ongoing project 'Six Degrees of Copenhagen' to break down social barriers by photographing strangers within six social connections of themselves.

KongensNytorv

Kongens Nytorv, one of Copenhagen's largest squares, features elegant buildings and beautiful flower arrangements, while hosting many exciting events throughout the year - such as their popular Christmas Market.

Form in Hotel Sankt Annae offers something truly exceptional for cocktail enthusiasts in Copenhagen: romantic evenings and meeting new people alike can enjoy its intimate ambience and cozy charm. Not far from Kongens Nytorv and close by is Form, making for an exceptional dining and drinking experience that you won't find elsewhere in town.

Kongens Nytorv's vibrant lights make this the ideal place to experience Danish capital nightlife at its best. So Pavillionen offers an exceptional mix of hip-hop, R&B, and EDM music that'll keep you dancing all night long - you may even share this intimate environment with your friends while dancing to its pulsating sounds and neon lights - the ultimate way to enjoy Copenhagen nightlife at its best.

The Amalienborg Palace

Copenhagen has long been considered "Venice of the North", due to its many bridges. Additionally, Copenhagen is often seen as a fairy-tale city due to its picturesque canal harbor and 17th-century multicoloured houses that are framed by elegant rococo palaces housing members of its Royal Family.

Amalienborg (or Frederiksstaden), was initially constructed as a collection of noble houses; however, due to the fire at Christiansborg Palace in 1794 it quickly evolved into the Danish Royal residence and has become home to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe and her family ever since. The four palaces that make up Amalienborg were eventually combined into one large residence for HM Queen Margrethe's use as part of the Frederiksstaden complex.

Hansen Kock created an interior decoration style in his palaces based on Goethe's color theory and nature harmonies to achieve maximum vibrancy, especially when combined with gilding. Ceilings painted contrasting colours add visual interest when added with gold leaf gilding.

The Tivoli Gardens

In summertime, the square serves as an outdoor amusement park with flower arrangements, amusement rides and restaurants; during winter it becomes an endless skating rink.

Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto should be part of any Norwegian pianist's repertory, yet Leif Ove Andsnes had never experienced its magic until this evening in Tivoli Gardens. Accompanied by Concerto Copenhagen (and playing an 1867 Bluthner piano from that very year!), Andsnes made an enchanting rendition in Copenhagen where Edvard Grieg first premiered his work - truly astonishing performance!

Pablo Records produced some exceptional mainstream jazz in the late '70s, including this live recording featuring violinist Stephane Grappelli, guitarists Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass, bassist Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, and drummer Mickey Roker (recorded July 6, 1979) that still shines nearly four decades later. For anyone who appreciates accessible jazz this disc is essential!

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid is one of the best Disney princess movies and marked a new golden age of Disney cinema. A touching, tear-jerking family film that all should watch.

This tale follows Ariel, a mermaid with aspirations to become human. To achieve her desired form, she must strike a deal with Ursula, an ocean witch, to receive it; they also make a sacrifice of both voice and tongue in exchange. A true tale of sacrifice.

Halle Bailey is an incredible actress and I believe she does an exceptional job as Ariel in The Little Mermaid. Her dedication and beauty as she inhabits this character makes for an exceptional performance, not to mention her powerful vocal range - an extraordinary singer herself! Other cast members in this movie include Jacob Tremblay as Flounder (mermaid's best friend), Daveed Diggs as Sebastian the crab and Awkwafina playing Scuttle the seagull - with memorable songs by all these actors! Ultimately this movie leaves an excellent musical score that delivers memorable tunes!
