Neuschwanstein Castle

Neuschwanstein Castle stands out with its magnificent towers and breathtaking vistas overlooking two picturesque lakes - Alpsee and Schwansee - and Pollat Gorge, as well as being built by Ludwig II of Bavaria, also known as "the Fairy Tale King." This astounding medieval masterpiece was imagined by Ludwig himself; we refer to him today as our fairytale King!

After his humiliating defeat in the Austro-Prussian War left him feeling helpless, Ludwig turned to fantasy. He built lavish castles and palaces across his kingdom; Neuschwanstein being among them.

This 19th-century castle is widely recognized for its magnificent historicist design and is well known around the world. Every day thousands of tourists visit and last year alone there were approximately one million visits. Ludwig would have been astounded to see that figure; his castle only opened to the public a few weeks before his death and intended as an oasis for reflection on Wagner's music; instead it quickly became a magnet for international visitors.

The BMW Museum

The BMW Museum was constructed to commemorate the opening of Munich Olympic Park and BMW Welt in 1973.

From BMW Motorsport area featuring racing cars such as its 3.0 CSL that competes in IMSA championship, to engine galleries displaying some of the world's most complex engines, it is clear why people are so attracted to these vehicles. There is even an area dedicated to BMW's history of forced labor that serves both as a memorial and place of remembrance - an experience both heartbreaking and humbling at once.

The museum features BMW Art Cars designed by renowned artists - each one is an individual work of art in itself! You can download a free app that provides information about various themes and areas within the museum before your visit and provides suggestions as to when best to explore each one.

Haus der Kunst

Haus der Kunst is a non-collecting museum committed to exploring modern and contemporary art through diverse histories. With exhibitions, education programs and research initiatives designed to expand global perspectives and stimulate scholarship at all levels of study, Haus der Kunst fosters global perspectives while supporting emerging scholars through its Goethe-Institut Fellowship at Haus der Kunst program.

Paul Ludwig Troosts designed this museum, completed between 1933 and 1937. As Germany's largest monumental building and housing an extensive collection of contemporary art, its location at Prinzregentenstrasse 1 on Munich's southern edge of its Englischer Garten park makes it particularly noteworthy.

One of the museum's recent exhibits was truly exceptional, featuring works by El Anatsui. Entitled Triumphant Scale, this massive show explores his entire body of work over five decades; small sculptures to large room-scale installations (including one new commission). Visitors can also check out Fujiko Nakaya's fantastic ephemeral fog sculptures which make an eye-catching installation.

The Olympic Park

Olympic Park was home to the 1972 Summer Olympic Games and remains a popular place for sports, leisure activities, and fun activities today. Additionally, its grounds serve as an archive to commemorate these past games that took place there.

Visits to the park during different seasons offer unique experiences each time. In wintertime, you'll likely witness professional athletes train for their sport before watching them soar off of ski jumps.

Summer brings many activities, from bobsled rides and flying ace shows, to souvenir shopping at Aramark gift shops stocked with unique trinkets that my kids used as mementos of their trip. Just be sure to arrive early as seating may be difficult to locate at these events. Also plan ahead as these shops don't open during off season periods and their hours vary accordingly.
