Semper Opera House

Located on Theaterplatz Square, the Semper Opera House is one of Dresden’s most famous landmarks. Its history has been a complicated one. After the first Semper Opera was destroyed by fire in 1869, residents urged King Friedrich August II to put architect Gottfried Semper in charge of rebuilding it. He agreed, though he was in exile at the time because of his part in the Dresden Revolution of May 1849. He sent his son, Manfred, to oversee the project, and the new building opened in February 1878, also to Semper’s design.

Christian Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Dresden usher in the new year with a sparkling program of light music from operetta. Included are spirited duets from the composer Emmerich Kalman, a contemporary of Franz Lehar.

Residence Palace

The Residence Palace is a beautiful Renaissance palace that houses several museums with incredible collections of treasures. Its green vault is one of the most stunning features. It is located in the city center, close to Zwinger and Frauenkirche.

After a year of hiatus, the Palace Residency is back with a bare-bones framework that focuses on collaborative practices and creating ambitious cross-disciplinary works. Participants are asked to contribute by running workshops, leading projects, sharing skills, performing, and supporting on-site production.

The Carabinierisaal and Rittersaal halls are decorated with paintings, including J. M. Rottmayr’s depictions of the taming of the horse Bukephalos by Alexander the Great. The rooms were used for official receptions and theatre. They also house plastic allegories and armour trophies. The halls are open to the public.

The Chatham-Kent Museum and Archives has a plaque in honour of Hugh Burnett, president of the National Unity Association, at Uncle Tom’s Cabin Historic Site in Chatham, Ontario.

Panometer Dresden

One of the highlights of any trip to Dresden is a visit to the Panometer. This unique 360deg panorama combines the opulence of Baroque Dresden with its everyday life. The king and his entourage, famous artists, ordinary citizens, and historically significant scenes are woven into a single picture.

This exhibition venue, a former gas holder built in 1880, serves as an example of how industrial monuments can be used sustainably today. It also shows how art and architecture can be combined to create a successful overall concept.

With the DRESDEN 1945 panorama, artist Yadegar Asisi draws attention to the fatal interdependencies of war. Construction and destruction, splendour and demise, high culture and human abysses are global mechanisms that shape history. This is reflected in the apocalyptic scene of the destroyed city.

Escape Rooms

Escape Rooms, also known as Exit Games, have become increasingly popular around the world. They are a great way to have some fun with friends or coworkers. They involve being locked in a room and trying to solve a series of puzzles. They are a fun and exciting activity that requires teamwork.
